BERTI GREEN ACCELERATOR

The Berti Green Accelerator is a business accelerator programme seeking to champion 3 (three) entrepreneurial, low-carbon businesses in the UK. It was founded in 2012 by Berti Investments Ltd (“Berti”).

 

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

The Application Process is divided into 3 (three) stages:

  • Submission of the Application Form (“Stage One”).
  • If successful in Stage One, attendance of The Finalists Selection Event (“Stage Two”).
  • If successful in Stage Two, attendance of The Final Pitch (“Stage Three”).

 

ELIGIBILITY

You CAN apply if you:

  • Are a business set up as a sole trader, partnership or limited company, including university or government spin-outs AND
  • Are focusing part of your business within the UK AND
  • Have been generating revenue for at least six months prior to our application deadline AND
  • Have a team of at least two people AND
  • Are currently generating less than £5million (five million pounds sterling) of revenue annually

Please do NOT apply if you:

  • Are a university or public sector research institute OR
  • Are a Community Interest Company OR
  • Are a voluntary or charitable organisation OR
  • Are a local authority OR
  • Are a community organisation OR
  • Have not generated revenue in your business for at least six months
  • Do not operate any part of your business in the UK
  • Are a previous winner of a Berti Green Accelerator Programme

 

LANGUAGE

Applications must be submitted in English only.

JUDGING AND SELECTION PROCESS

All Applications submitted on or before the Closing Date will be evaluated by Berti based on the following criteria:

  • Carbon reduction: your business’s ability to sustainably reduce green-house gas emissions.
  • Profitability: the ability to demonstrate that your business model is scalable, sustainable and can offer rewarding long term financial returns.
  • Innovation: the ability of your business to identify a clear niche in the market.
  • Leadership: the experience and expertise of your company’s management.

 

Applicants assume sole responsibility for results obtained from the use of any advice or funding received as a result of entering the competition, and for conclusions drawn from such use. Berti shall have no liability for any loss or damage (including without limitation indirect or consequential loss) caused by any advice given to Applicants in the Berti Green Accelerator programme.

All warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law are, to the fullest extent permitted by law, excluded from any advice given.

There will be no cash or other alternative to the Prize offered and prizes are not transferable.

 

Discretionary Berti Investment

Berti is actively seeking to invest up to £1million (one million Pounds Sterling) in each of the Winners. By keeping in close contact with the Winners through the 12 (twelve) months mentorship programme period, Berti will endeavour to learn about the Winners and establish strong relationships. If and when conditions are appropriate, Berti will ensure the right kind of investment is made and on terms and conditions to be agreed in good faith.

The Berti Investment is discretionary and there is no guranatee that Berti will invest in any of the Winners.

If any Winner of the Berti Green Accelerator is unable to take up a Prize for any reason, or if Berti has not been able, after making reasonable efforts, to make contact with a Winner, Berti reserve the right to award that Prize (without notice to the first Winner chosen) to an alternative Winner, in which case the first Winner chosen shall not be eligible for any share of the Prize whatsoever. Berti shall not have any liability in such eventuality.

The Winners are not required to accept any investment offers from Berti.

 

DISQUALIFICATION

Berti reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Application/Applicant that in its judgment violates the spirit of the guidelines, processes and rules of the Berti Green Accelerator programme; and its decisions are final and binding.

DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY

The Winners may be requested to take part in promotional activity and Berti reserves the right to use the names of the Winners (both company and individuals), their photographs and audio and/or visual recordings of them in any publicity.

Any personal data relating to applicants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the Applicant’s prior consent.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Berti does not, unless mutually agreed with you, claim any rights of ownership in your Application and/or Business Plan. As such, you retain ownership of your Application and/or Business Plan and, although Berti will be able to use your Application and/or Business Plan as set out in the rules of the Berti Green Accelerator programme, you will also have the right to use your Application and/or Business Plan in any way you choose.

You hereby warrant that your Application and all information which you submit and/or distribute will not infringe the intellectual property, privacy or any other rights of any third party, and will not contain anything which is libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, harassing or threatening.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All Applications and Business Plans will be kept strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third parties other than those referred to in these Terms and Conditions.

LIABILITY

Berti cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any Applicant entering the Berti Green Accelerator programme or as a result of accepting any Prize.

Berti is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment or software, failure of any email or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, telephone lines or at any web site, or any combination of these, including any injury or damage to Applicant’s or any other person’s computer or mobile telephone related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Berti Green Accelerator programme.

Nothing shall exclude Berti’s liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.

APPLICANT WARRANTIES

By entering, Applicants accept these Terms and Conditions and agree to be bound by them and any subsequent decisions by the Judges.

Applicants warrant they are eligible to participate in the Berti Green Accelerator programme and agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless Berti and all associated partners in the Berti Green Accelerator programme and their respective directors and employees from and against any and all losses, claims, liability and damages of any kind, brought against any of them, as a result of participation in this promotion or acceptance or usage of the Prize.

MISCELLANEOUS

The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Terms and Conditions shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.

GOVERNING LAW

These terms and conditions shall be governed by and in accordance with the laws of England and each party submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
