Applications for 2012 Berti Green Accelerator Closed with Overwhelming Interest

APPLICATIONS FOR BERTI GREEN ACCELERATOR CLOSED 8pm, 17 APRIL 2012

As the deadline loomed for aspiring green entrepreneurs to submit their applications for the Berti Green Accelerator, we were overwhelmed by the response; over 80% of all applications were submitted on the final day.

The Berti Green Accelerator is a new programme supported by James Caan, launched in 2012, offering first-class business support and access to multi-million pound funding for the UK’s most innovative low carbon businesses.

The Berti team will now spend the next two weeks processing the applications and selecting 25 businesses to proceed to the next stage of the Berti Green Accelerator: The ecoConnect Finalists Selection Event. Entrepreneurs will be informed by email on or before 4 May 2012 if they have been successful in being selected for the next round. Here’s a quick rundown of the timeline:

  • 4 May: 25 businesses are selected and invited to proceed to stage two: The ecoConnect Finalists Selection Event supported by Grant Thornton
  • 16 May: 25 businesses pitch at The ecoConnect Finalists Selection Event supported by Grant Thornton
  • 28 May: 6 businesses are selected and invited to proceed to the Final Pitch
  • 9 June: The Final Pitch Event
  • 11 June: The 3 winners will be announced

Shortlisted candidates will pitch to a Dragons’ Den style panel of judges including James Caan, Jeremy Leggett (founder and chairman of Solarcentury), Michael Liebreich (founder and chief executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance) and Jacques Tredoux (Berti Investments).

The Berti Green Accelerator programme will return in 2013, repeating the search for the UK’s most innovative low carbon businesses to support.

The Berti Green Accelerator is endorsed by a number of partners from the cleantech and business support sector, including ecoConnect, Business in the Community, Ecometrica, Grant Thornton, Catalyst Venture Partners, ClearlySo, Ashden and 10:10.
